Richie discovers Fonzie’s bike smashed to pieces on the front lawn. Scattered debris is everywhere including an exhaust pipe in the mailbox.
The next day Ralph comes into Arnold’s acting nervous and guilty. Richie asks him if he knows something about the damage to Fonzie’s motorbike. He confesses he accidentally ran over the bike with his car on the way over to Richie’s house the previous night.
The Cunninghams devise a plan to help Ralph find the courage to tell Fonzie what he has done. They invite Fonzie over on the guise of helping Joanie with a new magic trick she has been practicing.
Fonzie is tied to a chair. Ralph is then escorted in and makes a full confession. Fonzie reacts with anger, forcing the Cunninghams to keep him tied-up to ensure Ralph’s safety. He is kept bound in the living room for six hours. Richie tells him his anger and need for vengeance has made him very uncool.
The next day Ralph returns with a replica motor bike identical to Fonzie’s original. He says he visited more than two dozen bike shops to find it. With prompting from Howard and Richie, Fonzie forgives Ralph and agrees he can work at the garage until the bike is paid off.

Okay, just one question: how fast was Ralph going to cause part of Fonzie’s bike to end up in the mailbox?! Reckless driver alert!

Ha ha. The explanation given in the episode was that Fonzie never parked his motorbike on the street – always on the driveway. On this particular night he changed his routine for some reason and this was enough to cause Ralph (whose on-screen father in HAPPY DAYS was an optometrist!) to ‘not see it’ when he called round to Richie’s house that night. Bit of a lightweight ‘excuse’ if you ask me. Tee hee.
